3 skeins of Reynolds Lopi 100% wool (3 oz skeins) rust color
scrap Reynolds Lopi 100% wool tan
I used 10 1/2" handles from JoAnn's. I also used 3 small buttons for the inside of the flowers, 1 large button for looks and 1 magnetic clasp.
I hook
Main bag:
Row 1: Ch 50, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each st across. Ch 2 and turn.
Rows 2- 16: Hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.
Rows 17-21: change to tan wool: Repeat Row 2.
Rows 22-29: change back to rust wool: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off, but leave 12" tail to sew sides up with.
Fold in half and sew up side seams.
Now for the Top part of the body: Use rust wool.
Round 1: Attach yarn to top with sl st, hdc in each st around, sl st tog.
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st tog.
Round 3: Ch 2, dec hdc, hdc in each st around to other seam, dec hdc at the seam, then continue hdc around in each st. Sl st tog.
Row 4: Repeat Round 3.
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Inside Large Pocket:
Row 1: Ch 23, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.
Rows 2-11: Hdc in each st across, ch 2, turn.
Row 12: Ch 1 instead of ch 2, sc in each st across. Fasten off, leave tail to sew pocket to body.
Sew inside the bag.
Smaller Inside Pocket
Row 1: Ch 17, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.
Rows 2-9: Hdc in each st across, ch 2, turn.
Row 10: Ch 1 instead of ch 2, sc in each st across. Fasten off, leave tail to sew pocket to body.
Sew inside the bag.
Narrow Pen Pocket:
Row 1: Ch 24, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.
Rows 2-4: Hdc in each st across, ch 2, turn. Fasten off, leave tail to sew pocket to body.
Sew inside the bag.
Button strap:
Row 1: Attach yarn to middle of bag, Ch 5, sc in 2nd st from the hook, sc across, ch 1 turn.
Rows 2-10: Sc in each st across, ch 1 turn. Fasten off and weave in ends.
After felting, I used a magnetic purse closure from JoAnn's. I then used a fake button on the outside. I also sewed on the handles after felting.
Small Flower: not felted: set aside after making
Ch 3, sl st tog to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2, 9 hdc in ring, sl st tog.
Round 2: Ch 4, sc in next st. Repeat this around and sl st tog. Fasten off, but leave a 6" tail to sew to the bag.
Large Flower: not felted: set aside after making
Ch 3, sl st tog to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2, 10 dc in ring, sl st tog.
Round 2: Ch 6, sc in next st. repeat this around and sl st tog. Fasten off, but leave a 6" tail to sew to the bag.
I sewed the flowers on where I wanted them after felting and glued buttons to the inside of them.
