Summer Bright Dress and Shrug

Shaelynn can wear it with a shrug or without. The really nice thing about this stitch is that the dress is modest and doesn't need a slip under it. The stitch makes it look like "bumps" which is a lot of fun with a bright yarn.

Summer Bright Dress
L hook and RH Pinata ww yarn approx. 2 ½ skeins
Ch 76, Row 1: Sc and 2 dc in the 2nd ch from the hook. *Skip 2 ch and continue
sc/2dc in third ch. Repeat from * across. End with 2 skipped chains and just sc
in last stitch, ch 2 and turn.
Row 2: 2 dc in sc from last row. *Do sc, dc, dc in each sc from previous row.
Repeat from *. End with one sc, ch 2 and turn.
Row 3- 26: Repeat Row 2.
Leave a long tail to sew back together. Fold in half and sew up the back. Weave
in ends.
Straps (make 2) Ch 30, turn, sl st into 2nd chain from hook and continue to sl
st back to the beginning ch. Leave ends to sew onto dress.
Okay, here’s where it gets harder to explain. I took ¼” elastic and measured my
daughter with it under her arms. I cut it and sewed it together, overlapping
about 1”. Then I took the yarn and hooked the yarn onto it with a sl st. Then I
sc it to the top of the dress. I sc around the elastic and through to the dress.
I just stretched out the elastic to go around the dress. Sl st to the beginning
chain and fasten off and weave in end.
Sew the straps onto the dress. I have to do this with it on my daughter to make
sure I get it placed just right.

White Shrug
I hook and One Pound Yarn Lion Brand (I used this yarn, but it only took a
little bit of yarn to do this shrug. The yarn is smaller than normal ww yarn.
You could use Simply Soft instead and it would have the same effect)
V-stitch shrug
Ch 85, Row 1: dc, ch 1, dc in 4th chain from the hook. *skip 1 sts, dc, ch 1, dc
in next stitch, repeat from* across, ending with skip 1 chain and dc in the last
st. Ch 3, turn. Row 2: *In the chain in between the 2 dc from first row, do dc,
ch 1, dc in that stitch. Ch 3, turn. Repeat from * across, ending with a dc in
the last st. Repeat Row 2 for a total of 12 Rows.
Fasten off and weave in ends. You will have a rectangle. I used my daughter’s
arms as guides and sewed up the ends for the arms. I crocheted shells (7dc)
around the armholes.

White Kerchief
I used a H hook and Simply Soft.
Ch 4, slip st tog to creat a ring. Ch 3, count this as first dc. Dc 3 more times
in ring, ch 2 and dc 4 times and turn. Slip st in between the 1st dc and the 2nd
dc, ch 3 and dc 3 more times. 3 dc in corner, ch 2, 3 more dc (this makes the
corner). Do 4 dc in between the 3rd and 4th dc from the bottom chain, turn.
Follow the granny square pattern…for 11 rows. Then I did a shell edging 7dc with
skipping 3 sts sc and skip 3 sts, 7dc…repeat this around the triangle. Ch 50 for
straps on either point.
