Spunky Popcorn Hat

I designed this for an older child or adult, but my daughter loves to model...so she's modeling the hat for me.
I hook
3 oz Bulky 2 ply Red Heart yarn (older package is what I used)
Ch 5, sl st tog to make a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3, 14 dc in ring. Sl st tog the top of the ch 3. (the ch 3 is counted as the first dc in each row)
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around.
Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Sl st tog.
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Sl st tog.
Round 5: Back Loop Only: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Sl st tog.
Rounds 6 - 8: Both Loops: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Sl st tog.
Round 9: Ch 3, do 4 dc in same st. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). *Ch 2, skip a st and do 5 dc in next stitch. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). Repeat from * all the way around. Ch 2, end with a dc, sl st tog.
Round 10: Ch 3, *2 dc in ch 2 space from previous row. Repeat from * around. Sl st tog.
Rounds 11 -12: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Sl st tog.
Round 13: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sl st into front loop of ch of Row 13. Go straight into Round 14.
Round 14: Front Loops only: *Ch 2, sl st into next st. Repeat from * around. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Chunky Bernat cream scrap for flower
With Bulky yarn scrap from hat, ch 5, sl st tog.
Round 1: Ch 3, 14 dc in ring, sl st tog.
Round 2: Ch 3, do 4 dc in same st. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). *Ch 3, skip a st and do 5 dc in next stitch. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). Repeat from * all the way around. (6 popcorns)
Attach cream chunky yarn scrap, Round 3: Attach cream yarn with sl st in ch 3 space from Round 2. Ch 3, do 4 dc in same st. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). Ch 3 and 5 dc in same space. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). Ch 3. *In next ch 3 space from Round 2, 5 dc. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). Ch 3 and 5 dc in same space. Remove hook and put hook in the top st of ch 3. Put hook back into last dc and pull loop through. (Making a popcorn). Ch 3. Repeat from * around. Sl st to first popcorn.
Note: you will have 12 popcorns in Round 3. 2 popcorns in each ch 3 space.
Round 4: Sl st to ch 3 space from Round 3. In that space, do ch 1, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sl st. Repeat pattern for each ch 3 space. Making the petals. Fasten off.
Leave tails to sew to hat.
Take scrap fun fur (I used champagne color) and sew in the center. Fluff and tie it off through hat.
