L hook
8 skeins of Caron Simply Soft Autumn Red (6 oz skeins) (I used almost every inch of the 8 skeins)
This pattern is my first sweater of any kind. I designed it simply using rectangles. So you make the rectangles and sew them together, then add edgings.
Gauge: 2 inches = 3 V-doubles (6 dc of pattern stitch)
Sizing: 3x-4x
Measurements: Back: 23" long, 33" width from under arms across the back. 15" sleeve with edging. 25 1/2" from neck to end of sleeve with edging. Back of neck opening 15".
This is made with 2 strands held tog throughout.
Back Rectangle:
Row 1: Ch 70, 2dc in the 4th ch from the hook. *Skip a st, 2dc in next st. Repeat from * across. End with a dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, 2dc in middle of 2dc from the previous row. *2dc in the middle of the next 2dc from the previous row. Repeat from *. End with a dc. Turn.
Rows 3-32: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off and leave approx. 20" to sew seam.
Front: Make 2:
Row 1: Ch 36, 2dc in the 4th ch from the hook.
Sleeves: Make 2:
Row 1: Ch 50, 2dc in the 4th ch from the hook.
Turn.
Rows 3-23: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off and leave approx. 20" to sew seam.
Now to sew tog....I sewed up shoulders first. 11 1/2" of shoulders sewn up on both sides with 4 1/2" of the front not sewn. I took the back and one front piece and sewed the shoulder. Then I sewed the other side.
Now sew the sleeves seams, it will make a circle. Then sew the sleeves onto the cardigan. After the sleeves, I sewed each of the side seams.
I edged the neckline with sc. Then down the front sides of the cardigan, I did 5dc shell, sc, 5dc shell down. I had 12 shells on either side. For the sleeves and the bottom, I did 2 rows of 2dc, ch 3, 2dc. For the first row of each, I did 2dc, ch 3, 2dc skipped 2 sts and then repeated. When I went back for the second row, I did the 2dc, ch 3, 2dc in the previous row's ch 3 sp.
I hope this makes sense and that I haven't forgotten anything.
