Felted Tote Bag

Felted Tote Bag

If you post a picture somewhere else on the internet of an item that you have made from my patterns, please be kind to provide the direct link to my website.  Do not change names of my patterns.  I’ve worked hard on these patterns and changing the name does not change the pattern.  This is a copyrighted pattern.  Be respectful of that fact.

I hook

approx. 6 ozs of 100% wool

I used a handmade Greek Wool and an Iceland Wool.

Final Measurements: 14 1/4" wide ay 10 1/4" high.

I forgot to take pictures of the before tote or measurements.  I'm sorry this was only my second thing felting, so I'm still learning.

Round 1: Ch 35, hdc in 3rd ch from hook. Hdc in Back Loops down the chain. 6 hdc in the last ch. Turn and go down the other side of the chain (what would be the front loop) Hdc down. Put 4 hdc in the starting ch and sl st tog into the first hdc.

Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st. Hdc in every st down to the corner. 6 hdc in the corner. Turn and hdc around. 4 hdc in the other corner. Sl st tog.

Round 3-22: Ch 2, hdc in same st. Hdc in every stitch around. Sl st tog into the first hdc, not the ch 2. This closes the hole and doesn't leave a hole. Use this method throughout the tote.

Round 23: Sc around the edge. Sl st tog and weave in ends.

I used 2 colors, but it can be one color if desired.

I made two rectangles for pockets out of sc and sewed them inside the tote. You could make them any size you wanted.  One of mine was ch 30 and 20 rows.  The other one was smaller.  I put them on opposite sides of the tote.

I also made a button strap.  I attached yarn with a sl st to the center of the tote.  Then I put 4 sc.  I made 11 rows of sc.  Fasten off and weave in ends.

I used a strap for mine.  You could put handles if you wanted.

Strap: Ch 7, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Hdc across. Turn, ch 2. Make 84 rows of hdc.

Then I felted the bag in the washer in hot water/cold rinse.  My bag is drying.  I don't have the strap on yet.  I also freehanded flowers to add to the front.  Here's a picture so far.  But it's not done yet. I'll post a picture when the bag is dry and complete.
