Felted A-line Skirt

Felted A-line Skirt

If you post a picture somewhere else on the internet of an item that you have made from my patterns, please be kind to provide the direct link to my website.  Do not change names of my patterns.  I’ve worked hard on these patterns and changing the name does not change the pattern.  This is a copyrighted pattern.  Be respectful of that fact.

First picture is before felting. Measurements: waist without elastic 27" and length 15" from top to bottom.

Second picture after felting. Measurements: waist with elastic in it 22" and length 12 1/4" from top to bottom.

The skirt is still wet, but I did briefly slip it on my daughter over her clothes and it fit.  I will take a picture of it on her when it's dry.

I did put the elastic in before felting.  My hubby (who is more of a physics/chemistry person than I am) was pretty sure that the elastic would do fine in the hot water.  It seems to have done fine.

Approx. size 4

H hook

I used 2 skeins of 100% Peruvian Wool that I found at a thrift store.  I had one more skein that I didn't end up using.  This could be made longer depending on the height of the child.

Ch 100, sl st tog to form a ring. Be careful not to twist!

Round 1: Ch 2, hdc in same st and then hdc in each st around. Sl st into the first hdc, not the ch 2.  This pulls the sts tog and so there isn't a hole.  This will be repeat throughout the entire skirt.

Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st and then hdc in each st around. Sl st tog.

Round 3-19: Repeat Round 2.

Round 20: Ch 2, hdc in the same st, then hdc in the next 4 sts. 2 hdc in the next st.  *Hdc in the next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st. Repeat from *  around.  Sl st tog.

Round 21-39: Ch 2, hdc in same st and then hdc in each st around. Sl st tog.

Round 40: Ch 1, sc in next st. Sc in each st around. Sl st tog. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

I use elastic on all my daughter’s clothes. So I take the ¼ inch elastic, measure it to my daughter's waist and cut. Then I sew the one end into a circle. Then I sc the elastic to the first row of the skirt. Fasten off and weave in ends.

I felted this in my washer through 3 hot wash/cold rinse water cycles.  It may take more or less depending on your washer.

www.anniesattic.com and www.woolcrafting.com both have good information about felting on them.
